Information

What to Know before you come:

Puppy visitations When puppies are first born the Mama dogs get easily stressed, so most of the time visits will not take place until after the puppies are weaned, between 5-6 weeks old.

Puppy selections – Selecting your puppy is best done between 4-8 weeks old. Occasionally we will allow deposits on specific puppies prior to this if a family wants a particular color or trait. Deposits are usually intended to hold the order in which puppies are selected. That is because we want to ensure the perfect match and prior to this age the puppy’s personality and physical traits have not fully developed. In order to make sure you get the traits and personalities that best suit you, we strongly recommend selection happens within this timeframe.

Deposits- Deposits usually begin after the puppies reach two weeks old or have been observed long enough to ensure they are all healthy and free of any newborn complications. Deposits are intended to reserve the puppy of your choice until they are ready to leave. A typical deposit amount is $500. Most breeders make deposits non-refundable in order to discourage families from changing their minds at the last minute.

When you reserve a puppy, the puppy is removed from being marketed any further. Other potential buyers are turned away and the puppy is marked as being unavailable. When reservations are cancelled, we have a much smaller window to find that puppy a new home. It takes away weeks or even months that the puppy would have had to find another family. It also may result in us caring for the puppy much longer than we typically do; which adds more time and cost for that litter. Deposits should be taken very seriously and only made once you are fully committed to taking your puppy home.

With that said, we have experienced our fair share of circumstances when potential buyers could not move forward. We generally adopt a non-refundable policy but will usually return the deposit if the circumstances are reasonable. However, if the reason is not an emergent matter and is simply because a buyer has changed their mind, it is at our discretion on whether to return the deposit and considerations to do so are on a case-by-case basis: Factors include how old the puppy is, how much time has been spent communicating with the family, and how much extra time will be spent to advertise and find that puppy another home. We may opt to refund once the puppy is placed with another family, or refund partially if significant time has been spent or lost. Just like any other business, our interactions with clients are part of our business and expenses. However, this is also a passion of ours and it is more important to us that a family is fully committed to a puppy, then forcing a family to purchase one if they decide they no longer want do so. We certainly don’t want the puppy re-sold or returned later. We will always take our puppies back, no matter what the circumstance is.

Frequently Asked Questions:
What age can I take my puppy home?

Your puppy can leave when it reaches the age of 8 weeks old. Prior to 8 weeks, puppies still need to learn from their parents and siblings and get valuable socialization.

What vaccines will my puppy come with?

All puppies are vaccinated with a basic 5 or 6-way combination vaccine that protects them against canine distemper, Adenovirus types 1 & 2, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and the 6-way will include Coronavirus. Which vaccines your puppy gets depends on availability. This combination vaccine is one of a series that will need to be repeated by your veterinarian in order to be fully effective. Your puppy will not be fully protected until he/she gets the second booster and should not be taken to any public places until at least two weeks following that second dose.

What does the health guarantee cover?

Our guarantee is meant to ensure you have a healthy puppy that is free from serious hereditary issues. However, just like any limited warranty, the guarantee is not meant to act as insurance for your puppy and does not cover conditions that are treatable. It’s true intention is to replace a puppy that would not survive or live a normal life span; conditions that are fatal. The limitation of this guarantee has to do with the fact that most genetic conditions that are that serious are going to be identified in the first year of a puppy’s life. However, with some conditions, early identification is impossible. Despite our best efforts, some conditions will not show up in this timeframe and cannot be predicted in young puppies. In those rare cases where serious conditions are found beyond the health guarantee period that result in premature death, we will usually make an exception and will offer alternative or extended coverage on a case-by-case basis. Most importantly we want to stand behind the dogs we produce but can only do so within reason.

Do you take payments?

Although we will allow installments up until a puppy is ready to leave, we do not offer any financing options. We do utilize a third-party financing option through Klarna but families must go through Good Dog to take advantage of that option at this time. We are looking into other third-party financing options for the future. We encourage potential owners to research the costs in advance and save up their funds for the puppy they really want. It took us many years to acquire the dogs in our program and quality breeding dogs are not cheap. We have found that if cost is an issue or concern, then certain breeds that are higher-maintenance may not be the right breed for you. Researching potential health costs as well grooming costs, is essential in selecting the right breed.

What forms of payment do you take?

We take various forms of payments to make purchasing your new puppy as seamless as possible. We use several popular electronic payment platforms such as Venmo and Zelle. For deposits and payments in advance, we will accept personal checks as well. However, Venmo takes 1-3 business days to clear our bank so must be sent in advance of pick-up day. Final payment on the day of pickup must be cash, cashiers check, or a Zelle instant transfer.
